Lanker got his start at the Topeka Capitol Journal when he gained fame through his seminal photographic essay on child birth. He went on to create a profound body of photography and research with his project titled I Dream A World. This collection of portraits and interviews with some of the most historically and socially influential women of the 20th century is communicated through 75 powerful photographs. These women include Maya Angelou, Rosa parks, Althea Gibson, Lena Horne, Ruby Dee, Coretta Scott king, Oprah Winfrey and Septima Poinsette Clark to name a few. The Mulvane Art Museum has acquired this collection, with the help of many benefactors, and will unveil the achievements of Lanker and in so doing acknowledge the potent words and deeds of his subjects on the First Friday of February 2020. Hors d' oeuvres and beverages will be served. This event is free and open to the public.</description><start-date>1564981200000</start-date><display-name>Public Opening - I Dream A World - Portraits of Black Women Who Changed America</display-name><path>/calendar/2020/02/Idreamaworld</path><site>mulvane</site><link>site://mulvane/calendar/2020/02/Idreamaworld</link><created-by>beatt997</created-by><created-on>1570654990463</created-on><last-modified-by>beatt997</last-modified-by><last-modified>1581701999911</last-modified><dynamic-metadata><name>categories</name><value>MulvaneEvents</value><value>MulvaneHome</value></dynamic-metadata><dynamic-metadata><name>subheading</name><value>Join Us fron 5 to 7 PM</value></dynamic-metadata><system-data-structure definition-path="MulvaneEvent"><isFeatured>Yes</isFeatured><showStartEnd>Yes</showStartEnd><starts>1581721200000</starts><ends>1581728400000</ends><expireDate/><all-day/><recurrence><frequency>Once</frequency><interval>1</interval><day/><monthly-day>day of the month</monthly-day><ends/></recurrence><excerpt>Join the Mulvane Art Museum for the official opening of the I Dream A World: Portraits of Black Women Who Changed America exhibition featuring the photographic works of Pulitzer Prize winning photographer Brian Lanker.
